PASCAL VOYER-NGUYEN

Robotics for medical and industrial applications as well as 3D printing for medical research.

Currently a mechanical engineer at Neuralink.
Here's are some projects I have worked on:

Currently WIP. I'm trying to stream google maps directions directly to my dashboard. The car predates android auto.

HipPO

HipPO Offloading Mechanism

Undergrad capstone project inspired by aquatic therapy. HipPO is a novel hip support system that promotes mobility and relieves pain for those suffering from hip osteoarthritis. The wearable system accomplishes this through adaptive mechanical offloading of body weight, far infrared heat therapy, and compression of the lower limbs. The device is designed to provide a higher quality-of-life to hip OA patients and patients awaiting hip arthroplasty surgeries; for which the backlog has significantly increased due to COVID-19.

Waterloop

WaterloopPod WaterloopPod

Integration Lead and mechanical designer for Waterloop. Oversaw the prototyping, design and fabrication of Goose 5: the team's latest pod. Goose 5 incorporates our custom Linear Induction Motor and is designed to compete in the SpaceX Hyperloop competition.

CenTo - Centrifugal Toilet

Centrifugal toilet render

Design of CenTo, a novel centrifugal toilet design for lunar gravity and microgravity. CenTo uses centrifugal force to capture and force human waste through a passive one-way seal mechanism. Also included are a radial fan to manage smell and a specialised seat geometry that cradles the pelvis to help crew align themselves. The design was submitted for NASA’s 2020 Lunar Loo challenge hosted on HeroX.

Table Saw Mobile Workbench

thing

Refurbished table saw with a replaced motor, new blade and a handle made from scratch. The wooden base was designed and built by me to replace the original legs. It features a power switch, sawdust collection drawer, as well as storage space for a hand-drill and circular saw. The reclaimed wood cross-cut sled is also my design. This project was particularly useful and has been used for home-improvement projects and to build prototypes of my other projects.

3D Printed Heart Valves

AorticValve
PrintedValve

Parametrised geometric models of fully functioning 3D printed heart valves. Corresponding test rigs were also built to simulate blood flow to validate performance of the synthatic valve using MRI.

Manual Neurosurgical Shunt Catheter Tool

ShuntTool

A novel manual tool to connect shunt catheters to their valves. Prototypes were designed in Solidworks and 3D printed or machined out of stainless steel. Using this tool shortens the time and number of attempts needed to connect a shunt catheter making it superior to existing techniques. The tool was proven successful and is currently in-use in operating rooms at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

Congenital Heart Surgery Simulator

3D printed heart Being operated on simulator

An adjustable dynamic Chest Wall & operating table simulator for 3D PrintHeart: a program at SickKids that develops the use of 3D printed heart models to assist doctors in the management of patients with complex congenital heart disease. The models were used at SickKids' annual Hands-On Surgical Training (HOST) course where surgeons practiced various procedures on teh 3D printed hearts.

Lunar Rover Powertrain

wheel assembly

Design of a full sized concept of a lunar rover powertrain for the 2019 McMaster Designathon: a CAD and design competition hosted at McMaster University. The concept replaced the original Apollo-era rover wheels and steering system by a dust-proof omnidirectional system. The design won first-place in its category.

FIRST Robotics

FIRSTRobot

Led the design and fabrication of 3 FRC caliber robots between 2014-2016. Robot operator for 8 competitions leading to 3 regional event victories and a semi-finalist finish at the world championship.

Mentored the team for mechanical design and game strategy during the 2017 season.
